Hamburg has long since been Germany's gateway to the world. Although the city on the Elbe is more than 100 km from the sea it ranks amongst the most important trade and transport metropolises in Northern Germany, not least on account of its good transport infrastructure. But the diverse cultural offerings from the Kunsthalle to the Reeperbahn also play their part in lending international flair to this city.
